Coding on Cable and Wire

Size, voltage, standard and length marks on electrical cable and wire, applied at extrusion speed.

Marking that keeps pace with extrusion

Cable and wire come off the extrusion line fast and in unbroken lengths, and every metre has to carry its identity: the maker, the core size and voltage, the standard it meets and often a running length mark that tells installers and inspectors what they are holding. Insulation can be glossy PVC, rubber or polyethylene, and cable may be round, flat or twin.

Continuous inkjet prints a steady line of text on moving cable without contact, using fast-drying inks made for insulation materials. Laser marking is an ink-free alternative for fine or permanent marks. Either can be set up to print length marks that keep counting as the cable runs.

Coding on Cable and Wire

What we mark on cable and wire

  • Brand and product name
  • Core size and voltage rating
  • Standard or approval references
  • Running length marks
  • Batch and date codes

Key features

What you can expect from a coding system set up for this pack.

  • Continuous, high-speed markingThe print head follows the cable at extrusion speed, laying down a steady, even line of characters.
  • Inks for insulationFast-drying inks formulated for PVC, rubber and polyethylene resist rubbing.
  • Length markingSequential length marks help you cut to length and check production against metres drawn.
  • Several lines of textMark more than one line of text, depending on the printer model and the space on the cable.

Built for Kenyan production lines

Kenyan cable makers supply building sites, utilities and retailers, and the marking has to show what the cable is and the standard it claims.

  • Marks laid out to show the information required by the standard you manufacture to.
  • Fast-drying inks and printers that cope with the heat and dust near extrusion lines.
  • Stable printing even when line speed changes between sizes.
  • Inks and spares available locally, with maintenance plans for continuous production.
  • Training for operators so message changes between cable types are quick and accurate.

How we work with you

Whatever you come to us for, the same clear process applies from first call to ongoing support.

  1. Assess

We learn about your product, packaging, line speed and what needs to be printed.

  2. Recommend

We propose the right printer, ink and layout, with a clear quote.

  3. Install and train

We install and commission the system and train your operators on the line.

  4. Support

Inks, spares and maintenance keep production running, with our team a call away.

Common questions

Can the printer print running length marks?

Yes. Length marks can be printed so they follow the cable as it is drawn, and we set this up to match your line and your counter.

Will the ink rub off the insulation?

Inks made for PVC, rubber and polyethylene dry quickly and resist rubbing. We confirm the ink against your insulation before recommending a system.

Can I mark several lines of text?

Yes. Printers can mark several lines of text, depending on the model and the space available on the cable.
